My youngest brother began knife making as a hobby a couple of years back. Seriously, and I'm not kidding that it started with watching episodes of " Forged in Fire". That truly where the obsession started. Well, after a couple of years of struggling, learning and not saying much of his progress, this is what he's delivered to me today as a gift. y My only input was into blade design and providing the bone for the handle.

I too made a few over the years but not that purty . Love the Damascus , have you ever seen steel cable turned into Damascus steel all hand hammered . The spirals give real neat design.

I have...but only on TV, Forged in Fire of course. I love that show, never missed a single episode. I record it on my PVR so's I don't have to watch shampoo, facial cream and Expedia commercials.

I use to use old files even old power hacksaw blades. Great hard strong and hold an edge well. After all my grinding I used to draw them back to straw and put in an oven set at its highest temp , set the blade in at straw and turn off letting them cool down . Usually they were perfect hard but not brittle . Then I'd make a handle and mount it. Do my finishing then use them.
