Just got a Logan 200 and missing the tailstock. Ebay is no luck at the moment. Thanks!

Wow.. that is expensive! I called Logan, and a new complete tailstock for the 200 was $950. So, maybe not so expensive? Logan also said that any 10" tailstock would be compatible, so I bought one from eBay for a model 800. He said they were all fit for the lathe itself (hand scraped?) so I may have to shim to get it dialed in.

Anyways, thanks for your tip.

Sup,

I assume that the front-back offset is adjustable (it is on most lathe tailstocks). Unless you turn a lot of parts that are long enough to need the use of a live center in the tailstock and are under about 1/2" diameter, I wouldn't sweat a vertical error unless the tailstock is more that about 0,003" to 0.005" too high (if it's too low, you can shim it, but no one makes negative shims). For a simple analysis relating diameter turning errors versus tailstock height errors, go to http://www.hobby-machinist.com/resources/tailstock-height-and-bed-wear-errors-txt.2479/ which is in the Atlas/Craftsman Lathes Repairs category in DOWNLOADS.

Thanks Bob, I will check it out. I have a lot learning to do as it pertains to machine set up. I also need to stock up on measuring gear. This is all still very much a learning process for me.
