Slocomb 2-3" Micrometer

sounds about right,
it should close smaller than 1 inch and open slightly larger than 2" :grin big:

very nice to find new old stuff!

Thank you Mike!

'Yeah. That's the ticket!' NOS. New old stock.

Guess somebody bought it and never used it.

Could be leftover stock from a store.

I think I will hold off on opening it all the way.

It does feel a little stiff. Like oil that has been in there has run off or thickened.

Maybe it is just supposed to be that way. I have not used micrometers a whole lot.

you may have a bit of oxidation internally.
i wouldn't be too afraid of taking the thimble all the way out to inspect and clean the rod.
a drop or 2 of light oil on the threaded portion should take care of most of the stiffness.
but if it is brand new, the resistance is due to tight tolerances- that's a good thing unless the action is too cumbersome

Thank you Mike!

That's a good idea to put a few drops of oil on it and run it in.

Get the oil into the mic. See. I am picking up the lingo since I now own such a fine precision instrument or tool.:)

You call it.

3in1 oil or Wahl shaver oil.

Have a big bottle of shaver oil. That stuff is like the trichlor.

It is the thinnest stuff on earth!

It's oily and the old Trichlor you definitely would not call that oil. It was to completely degrease metal.
