Follower Rest For Larger Lathe

Daryl,

Here's some pics of the one I have.

The one Middle of the road has may fit better to my lathe. Still require some fitting.

hey gang, a bit of FYI, the USPS has a "Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Board Game Box"...
Inside Dimensions: 23-11/16" x 11-3/4" x 3"
I think a large follower might just fit in it. I had not seen this box before.
The delivering carrier might not be too happy.
When I shipped a bunch of lathe chucks several years ago, I printed up a bunch of *HEAVY* labels on florescent red stickers.
Slapped those on every panel.

Oughta work. And just in case you hadn't thought of this ... you can put several wraps of that 1" wide fiber reinforced tape around it, to help keep the cardboard from disintegrating :)

Hope your old iron finds a happy home!

Yep, yep.
With the Chucks we did a double or triple or quadruple wrapping of cardboard around the chuck with the wide reinforced tape and then on the outside also.
Only had one out of 7 or 8 that was all tore up in Louisiana, but to credit the USPS they did get it to the recipient.
My better half would also tape the tracking number to the item as well.
That was before I owned the 1440 Birmingham and now I wish I had a couple of those chucks.

I picked up two boxes this afternoon at the PO, going to do a 'dry' run... -hehe

Finally got back to this.
If they are still available!!

Middleroad: She'll mount up nicely without modification of the follow with a simple adapter plate. I'd be excited to make her work. Please PM me a price. I'll get you an address.
4gsr: Similarly I might be able to make the follow you have work on my 18" BoyeEmmes the pad for the extended arm might conveniently land in side the double V on the back. It looks as though it might be narrow enough to fit without modification of either the follow or the lathe. Would require an adapter plate. Also, an easy fab. Please PM a price.

Thanks to both of you!

Things a bit hectic currently, it might be a few day before I can get on this.
I have the box sitting here, need to just get out to the shop and see if it fits and if not then 'Plan B'...

OK, an update. Quick dry run this evening -- after I fixed the starter on the lawn tractor...
It fits in a Flat Rat Game Board box. My Better Half verified for me that the weight allowance is the same as other flat rate packages.
I need to remove the silver knobs from it.
I also want to cut up some 1/8" plywood to put around it in addition to extra cardboard pieces, so that it doesn't break through.
I'll need a few more days to make that happen. My tablesaw is currently piled high with junk...

⅛" plywood can be cut with a box knife. Score deeply, then break it over an edge.

All packed up and ready to go to it's new home. (believe it or not...)
Finally got around to it.

edit: Meant to add a bit more detail to help those shipping heavy items.
I fit this one into a 'Flat Rate Game Box'. Hard to find, the PO only gave me two when I went up to the counter and asked.
Had to take the knobs off and such, and side to side there was only about a 1/2" to spare.
I put a 2by on the bottom, 1/8" ply on the sides and then a ton of double cardboard and box foam everywhere else.
End to end there was about 3" to spare.
It is not budging at all. So as long as it doesn't get dropped from up high during transit it should make it.
