Cutoff blade holder-holder question

For anyone that contributed to this and is interested, I ended up welding the holder directly to a stripped out QC tool holder much like epanzella's photo. The welds are effective but too embarrassing so no picture requests please. I should have spent more than 2 minutes scraping the black (whatever it is) off of the parts so lots of spatter.

I have a cut off blade holder holder, don't remember where I got it but it works good, also have a aloris

What you have there is a blade holder for a turret lathe, made to mount upside down in the rear tool holder on the cross slide. The trouble with using straight tool holders in a tool post such as you have pictured is that it restricts how close you can get to the chuck; you have to slide the work out from the chuck which creates more overhang and consequent chatter. Generally, an offset tool holder is used, but this creates another problem; if the tool sticks in the cut, it pulls the holder down which twists the blade and often breaks it. The culprit here is the tool post rocker, and before I went to Aloris tooling, I made a solid ring the correct height to exactly center the parting tool; many less broken parting tools after that; after the advent of Aloris tools, breakage is nearly unknown, at least to me -----

I hold it in a regular tool holder in the front of cross slide with the qctp it will get rite up to the chuck jaws, a little closer to the chuck than the Aloris parting tool holder, the blade is angled up , have not had any problems parting with it or the Aloris holder on the SB 10 L. "What ever works "
But thanks for letting me know what it was made for
