When making a pulley, Steps?

This is a subject that I have been pondering myself. I need to make an 9-inch diameter 2-step pulley for a 3/4 inch shaft. I do worry that because of the large diameter, the pulley is likely to have more runout than I would like.

I had good luck with a smaller pulley. I made a 4-inch diameter countershaft pulley for my Atlas mill. I mounted the slug in my 4-jaw chuck and did all the operations without taking it out of the chuck. The last thing I did was flip the pulley over in the chuck to part it off and clean up the face, but that had no affect on runout as the sheaves and shaft hole were already done. The pulley runs true with no observable runout.
 
the original guy asked how to do a pulley so I answered the question to the best of my ability. you did not provide an answer, you just questioned my answer. please provide an answer to his question not question my answer bill

BFD, I’m totally in agreement with you on the method you described! If you want a pulley running perfectly true, that will do the trick. And especially on little steam engines that have an ornate looking fly wheel(s). There is nothing worse than seeing it wobble…Chips&More
