Can anyone here help me find a .264/6.5mm range rod? The only place I've found them is PTG and they are 6-8 weeks out. Anyone know where I can get one in a reasonable time frame? I have a rifle project I would like to get started on very soon, but this is going to hold me up substantially.

Thanks,
Bob

JGS also sells them. I don't know if they're in stock, or not.

What do you mean by range rod , to me it's a cleaning rod. If you mean to measure the chamber there gauges for that.

Not sure where they came up with the moniker for these rods, but range rods are an indicating rod that goes in the bore of the barrel to indicate center when threading, contouring, chambering, etc... in a lathe to be sure the center is running true to the lathe and tool centerline. As opposed to the outside of the barrel, which may sometimes not be concentric with the bore of the barrel.
The range rods are slightly smaller than the bore but with a bushing that fits snug to the bore at one end and tapered from that end to slightly larger than the bore a few inches from the end so it will self center in the bore when inserted. Usually, only a couple inches protrudes and you indicate off that in several locations to and adjust until the barrel is straight and true to centerline. I'm pretty much a newbie at all this, so if my explanation is wrong or doesn't make sense, I won't get my feelings hurt if someone corrects me.... :)

PM me your address and I'll send you a homemade one.
I also have a 6.5 project in the works and I made 2 range rods.
one fits better than the other. I'll send you that one. I can always make more.
No fancy bushings...just a slip fit with taper.
I'm working with a shilen barrel and it fits a little different in each end. they do say that a barrel needs to be cut off 1" to get rid of bell mouth from lapping so that is probably why.
It is made from tool steel but is unhardened.
If it will work for you great...if not throw it in the scrap bin.. maybe it'll come in usefull for something down the road.
Was gonna post a pic of it but the phone is updating....took all the fun out of that!

Sent a message by way of the contact on your avatar. Couldn't find a PM link on the page?

Thanks a bunch,
Bob

This is a range rod, but I only have 6mm and 308.

I have a PTG I'm not using anymore. It takes bushings which I'm gonna keep but if you're interested I will give you a good deal.
