If you dont have a 4 jaw or want a longer flat, clamp the pin in your tool holder, put an end mill in your 3 jaw and you have a mill of sorts...

Nice job by the way.

I did spend a few minutes trying to see if I could clamp it in/on my qctp. But due to its size, and not having any Z axis control, it wouldn't have worked out. Clamping in the 4 jaw actually worked quiet well, aside from the burrs. Had to file the, off, turned out a bit messy.

photo 7.JPG photo 8.JPG photo 9.JPG More CAT 320 parts being repaired. Same machine. Made some tabs and modified a scrap hydraulic ram for a pin for it. Found a Metric ram (55mm, or about 2.165") so I didn't have to bore any more than necessary to get a nice cleanup and round hole. Ten bucks from my buddies at the hydraulic shop. Will turn it all over to the welders tomorrow morning. It is a bit twisted and bent, so I just did the best compromise I could. I know when I clamped it down, it was not happy. I left a little clearance in the bores to make the welders job a little easier, I hope.

Huckshawn, you did a nice job on the tap follower. Did you heat treat the part as in the video?

No I didn't. The steel is just something mild. And Im honestly not sure ikl ever use it. Someone has suggested I could case harden it, tho. Maybe ill look into that.

EC, that shifter knob turned out very nice. Your buddy should appreciate it for years to come.

Thanks man. About 30 years ago I was with my dad when we found a custom made shift knob in a car in the junkyard. Someone made that for themself or someone else. I often wonder if anything I make will be found 30 years from now and will be pondered over similarly.

I'm sure it will, I still see projects around town that I built back in the mid 80's.

I still have a teak covered drill index I built for a specific job in the late '60s. Hope someone will appreciate it down the road.
