Oscar Ehrlich/ixl And W.f. & John Barnes Lathes

Welcome to the forums MisterSchmoo52: If your lathe is this one, then a picture of the treadle would be awesome.

FWIW i for one would love to see the pedal style Barnes.

I believe my Oscar Ehrlich is some time after treadles, as the left leg of the stand has no connections for the treadle at all, and looks not dissimilar to the right leg in thickness, it has then been converted over to electric via a plate bolted to the floor and a beam hanging backwards pulling the pulleys away from the spindle pulleys , and unfortunately my Barnes does not have the original base and legs and has been converted to having an electric motor hanging off the back.

I share your enthusiasm for treadle lathes, I asked one of my tutors about them and he said you would be quite conservative with your cuts as if you cut too deep, your treadling suddenly became very difficult.

Sounds like a good way to work out. :)
The reason i was hoping for a pic was because i do not see how the flat belt would not rub somewhere.
In the above Lathes/UK pic it looks like the cone pulley flat belt would have to pass between the ways.
I can't see that happening.

I don't know about any flat belt lathes other than the two I have, but the belts seem to be able to come off horizontally or somewhat tilted up to the back with no issues.

I really like the look of that Ehrlich that is above. I still do not see how that flat belt would work.
