I am cleaning up five 0 to 1/4" drill chucks, for an upcoming project. Two of them are Jacobs brand and came apart without any problem. 2 of the others are Supreme brand. Tried the same method on them and nothing happens. Do the Supreme chucks come apart the same as a Jacobs, or do I just need a bigger hammer?? Tried the Jacobs method, on a Micro-American Brand also, with no luck. ---- John

oh yes, be very careful trying to take it apart. It's not difficult, but you need a precisely make sleeve that allows the sleeve, but not the gear ring, to sit on it. Then you can press off the sleeve, take the split gear ring apart and then the rest of it.

I have two Supreme chucks in nice condition. I think they are better than my Jacobs chucks. Hold off on the BFH...

After reading the Bob Korves thread, I think I will just go with soaking them in solvent and re-lube them. Can`t take the chance of wrecking one, as I need all 5. Thanks for the heads up, on not trying a BFH. ---- John

don't take my experience as a deterrent, I was an idiot and didn't think things through properly. They're no harder to take apart than a Jacobs as long as you use the right tools.

make sure that the jaws are retracted of extended somewhere in the middle before pressing off the sleeve. you will break the jaw threads if you don't do this. this was found out the hard way bill
