I tried to remove the end covers but I could not slide them off. They would spin but not come off. I also checked and there is a capacitor in the base. I don't know if it is a run capacitor or a start capacitor.
The arbor runs very true and there is no excessive vibration with wheels off. The covers are like bells and the hum might be a resonance sound being transmitted by the thin sheet metal the covers are made of. All in all the grinder is a good buy for the money and I think I will tolerate a little hum sound as long as it runs smooth. I was just tying to make a silk purse from a sows ear! I also had an 8" Harbor Freight bench grinder I bought for $9.99 in 1978 and sold it 2012 for $82.00 at auction when I retired. It was still going strong. Thanks for all the help!
