Has anyone ever heard of or seen a Standard Modern 1530 lathe? I ran one for 4 years on board my last ship while on active duty in the US Navy. It was a sweet lathe, and when the ship was decommissioned, I tried to get it, but the Navy had other plans for it. Since then, I've never been able to find another one that size, even googling it. Was this a special version made for the Navy? Has anyone else seen one? Interested to hear any comments.

A friend of mine found one recently in near Saskatoon. Was looking for one for years and drove the hours there and back with the biggest grin ever.

I think they are still in business and the only manual lathes still made on this continent.

Yup, as far as I know they are actually Canadian made. I stumbled across them when I was researching lathes. Out of my league for price, but I heard they are very high quality. Google could probably help you lots, but I didn't really find much on their Web page. I think they prefer to get your name and email to get a salesman to chat with you so they can let you know their quality before discussing prices ( which tells me it's far out of my league).

Not much help I'm sure but I'd love to see pics of a new lathe from them, curious to hear how much they cost compared to other brands.

I really don't need that large a lathe, but I have been looking for years for a SM 1340. What do you think about the price?

I think it's a fair price if it's in as good a shape as it looks? Which begs the question "why is the seller getting a new lathe".

Good point, but it looks like it's moot. The post has been deleted.

Sometimes it's nice to have the decision already made for me.
