Found one locally, has arbor support, and that's about it. He won't give me a price, says offer what I feel comfortable with. He is not sure of the spindle taper.

It looks solid, but I am not sure of the value, thinking about offering a $1000.

Thoughts?

A little more info vertical? horizontal? And Model? Actually arbor support is a clue............horizontal! KT's are big heavy machines, and not easy to move so this usually affects the price. Horizontal arbors and cutters are really expensive new................. and around used but expensive to ship. If you want to use it to do vertical operations you will need some fairly large angle plates, you can make these if you have time and materials. Bottom line is get as much as you can that fits the machine. One of his alternatives to dispose of the machine is to scrap it. In my part of the world scrap is 50 a ton at the scale. A moderate KT horizontal is 6 tons. So basically that's the bottom line. Most of us that have them would rather give them to some one than scrap it. Again heavy,, how are you going to move it? Pay a rigger? It will be interesting to see how this goes.. Probably MTB50 taper, unless it is really old then it will be probably BS9. And a really old machine will be smaller and lighter.. my thoughts Tim

Now I see that it is a model H, personally have no experience with that model, but they are smaller thus lighter check the PM website lots of info there. Guys that have 'em love 'em. Tim

Going to check it out tomorrow. It's still under power, so I can run it. I don't think he knows too much about it, plus he has a ton of other things. Going to take it all in and hopefully there are so good accessories for this machine hiding in the corner.

He thinks it weighs around 3000, if it's anything other than 40 or 50 taper, I will pass.

good luck with inspection! look forwar to hearing/seeing results

Got it off the trailer tonight. The x axis power feed lever is loose, and the y axis wheel comes off, which I don't think it should. There is some slight surface rust on the table, but no visible milling marks in the table. All the ways look really good. Needs a real good cleaning and the coolant tank looks really nasty. Overall, I am very happy with it. Paid $1200 for it with some tooling. Its 50 taper.

I got 2 overram supports, one with a .715 bore, and the 2nd one is pictured.

Not sure of the weight, but my 2 ton electric hoist did pick it up, I am thinking it's close to 4000 lbs.

Check out Keith Fenner's "Broken knee on the K&T" on YouTube. His is a 2H and it seems like his y-axis handle slides right off too.

Great looking machine! Congratulations.

It's hard to get an idea of size....what is the overall height?, what's the dia. of those overarms? table size?

I have watched some of your previous overhauls. Please post whatever you can!

Thanks.

It's 5' from the floor to the top of the machine. The table is 10"x50". The knee is 26" deep, and the over rams are 3.5". 5hp, power feed and rapid on all axis. 35 to 1400 rpm. 1/2 to 20 ipm on the feed.

I was told it should handle a 6" face mill, 1/4" doc with no problem. I might paint it next year, we shall see. I am well into the VN 16s now.
