The End Of Enco?

Well, I hope Enco has one last hurrah on July 4th. I've already prepared the wife for an Independence Day sale situation. Fingers crossed.

I tried to nail Enco down about the merger. Below is my email to them and their response. After reading their ..... Ummmm ....... generic response, I don't feel any better than I did before.

Mark, let me apologize in advance for the lateness of our reply.

We certainly understand how you feel, and all that we can ask is that you give MSC a try. They are making a genuine attempt at reaching the hobbyists and individual consumers, and they've heard loud and clear that folks such as yourself have concerns about shopping with them based on price. They - and Enco management - have also heard all of the concerns that customers have voiced about our current shopping experience, especially Enco's website. MSC is going to help us with that, and we think that's going to be a win for our customers as well.

If you haven't already done so, please visit www.mscdirect.com/enco and follow the instructions there to log into your new MSC account. Logging into your new MSC account will allow you to see how their pricing is competitive relative to what you've seen in the past at Enco.

Most of the Enco team will be staying on at MSC, so if you decide to place an order with them, there's a good chance you'll be talking (or chatting or emailing) one of the old Enco holdovers (like myself). We hope you'll give MSC a chance to win and keep your business.

If you have any other comments or concerns - large or small - please let us know and we'll do our best to address them. Thanks and we hope to hear from you again soon!

Sincere regards,

Doug - Enco Operations

Subject: Enco closing

To whom it may concern,

It has come to my attention ( and MANY others) that effective August, 2016 Enco will cease to exist and be absorbed into the parent company, MSC. While I have seen comments from MSC that we will still enjoy the ENCO pricing and delivery, It seems that is not true. I have compared the same products from Enco and MSC and the MSC price has been considerably higher. I belong to several organizations with thousands of members world wide, dedicated to the world of hobby machining and many are concerned about this as we all have bought from ENCO for years. It seems the consensus is that MSC caters to industrial customers who buy in very large quantities. I , myself am inclined to agree with that statement.

Speaking for myself, from my comparison results, I will probably switch to buying from a large import company as hundreds have indicated they are thinking the same way. The thousands of hobbyists, although probably a small portion of the MSC customer base, will probably not be missed by your company, but it is a sad situation and I guess change is inevitable. It seems the only thing left to say is, ENCO will be missed by thousands of hobbyists and we will look for a supplier to fill our needs. It has been a good run and it saddens me to see it end.

Thank you for the service you provided,

I have been receiving a bunch of MSC sales emails but have not yet received an email with my new login. Looks like I didn't spend enough money there in the last year ($898.53) to qualify for a new account. Guess who will not be getting any of my business? If I want to pay MSC prices I can spend my money at McMaster-Carr instead. I've been doing business with them for years and have no complaints, they are a top notch outfit, even if they are a bit expensive.

I was on this page of Enco's website: https://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INPAGE?PMPAGE=enco_announcement.html and noticed this little blurb at the bottom of the page:
*Receive the same price you paid on all the products you purchased from Enco during the past 12 months, for one full year.

It looks like the honeymoon will be short fellas.

I didn't get a letter either Terry. If you enter your Enco account name and request a password reset from MSC they send you a temp password. The account notes that you are a Enco user and the prices are adjusted so.

I hear you on McMaster. Their main dist warehouse is right down the road from my work. I phone the order in and run over to will call on my lunch. Far as prices ya they are not the cheapest but well worth the selection, availability and they are very friendly and efficient even to joe schmo off the street with a visa card. Their prices on carbide endmills etc are actually decent and always high quality brands. SGS, YG1, OSG etc.

I did not spend much with them last year, and did not get a new account. I have a grangers right down the road from me, and one over by my work. So I use them some when I need it fast, Other than that, I have been using Amazon Prime and other sites. For some reason I was having problems getting a response on a couple of questions I sent to ENCO and the prices at MSC well why use them when I can get similar prices here in town and not pay shipping.

I did like they told me in their letter but it don't work. Says my account doesn't exist . I give up. Will use McMaster Carr and eBay. I'm done screwing around with MSC and Enco don't exist anymore.
:(

I had the same problem with their new password. I emailed customer support and they said I needed to send them my account # because they couldn't find me. I did that and haven't heard anything from them since. I'm glad I don't own any MSC stock. This is going to be a mess on their top line.

Didn't work, Dan I finally got an answer from their customer support and it essentially said to do what you wrote. After fiddling with it to get an email address it would accept, it sent me a temporary password. When I tried to use the password, it choked and said that my account was inactive and I should call customer support. Not bloody likely. They don't want my money, fine. I'll just giver it to someone who does.
