Bad Sellers on EBay?

Jeff Beck from Tools4cheap.net is a very good seller. It wasn't him.
Jeff is very reputable, fast to response, one of the best I would say.

It was 1-800-Watt, who now has a new name, I forget what it is.
Some people have had good experiences with him, some bad, it varies.

Some sellers start out very good, and something happens.
Business goes south. They get a little desperate.

When I first did business with ipenelopepitstop (Ron Cammarata) he was great.
I used to recommend him to people all the time for SB parts.
I bought several hundred dollars worth of parts from him easily,
including a tailstock turret and cross-sliding tool post for my SB 10L (cost me about $500).

Then, I started to notice things.
He would hang out in the South Bend forum of PM just to hawk his wares.
Then he posted that he was moving from Ebay to another auction site to save on Ebay fees.
Then he posted that the new place was dead, he was going back to Ebay.
Recently, he joined to SB Yahoo group and started to hawk his parts there.
Someone took him to task on a sale, and he gave a very rude response.
This isn't a very good way for a seller to behave IMHO.

My own last experience with him was this.
I asked if he had a South Bend Drill Press. He said yes.
His was in good condition with nice features (table elevator, etc).
He didn't intend to sell it before I asked.
I said how much? He said make me an offer.
So I said, well $200 is what I have right now, but if I need more,
let me know and I will save up.
He said he didn't intend to sell it now, but if he did, I had "dibs" on it.
Next thing I know, it is advertised on Ebay.
I asked him what happened to my "dibs".
Got no response. (The sure sign of a guilty party is silence).
It sold for $400 if I recall.
Last time I bought from him.
For $200 more, he sold an item out from under a regular customer,
and lost me.

Not smart.
Makes you wonder what these people are thinking.

Yes, that was it. Apologies to Jeff.....

Yeah - I don't know what it is with some people. I used to do exclusive business with a local company and spent thousands of dollars there over the years. I got to know the owner rather well (I thought...) and he would give me price breaks on merchandise for having been a steady customer. Then one day he found out I had purchased my own machines and was doing all my own labor, and making parts and repairs at home. The next time I walked into his store to buy some supplies he acted like I was his worst enemy, and he let me know it. Whaaaaa????

OK, whatever. I never set foot in the place again and he lost another dozen or so customers because of it. I hope he was happy with THAT outcome.

I bought a couple of precision grinding fixtures from this guy. His eBay name is "rharms1". He don't give much description and very few pictures of his stuff for sell.

Well I received the merchandise, It wasn't packed very well, pieces were damaged with dings and sort. I hate to leave negative feedback, so I left postive feedback and made comment "item damaged from **** poor packing". He locked me out from bidding on any of his stuff again!

It his loss, not mine.

Expecting someone to be honest with you when doing business with them is certainly NOT being picky. Do unto others.....

I went through a similar situation around Thanksgiving with a company I had never done business with before. On their web site they claimed an average lead time of 1-3 weeks for their service. After exchanging several emails with the owner, he told me that they were pretty busy and to expect a 2-4 week turn around for my part to be finished. After 7 1/2 weeks I finally got my part returned. I truly believe that from day one, he knew full well that he would not get the work done for me in the 3-4 weeks that he quoted me. I don't like being lied to either, but I have no way of proving my suspicions. He came highly recommended based on several internet sources, so I didn't say anything about it. If I would have been told up front it might be two months time - it would not have even been an issue.

After all of that, I now find that although his work looks good at first glance (hard coat anodizing) - it is not durable at all which is the reason for using his service in the first place! Some days you just can't win.

Wasn't there another ebay seller that everyone seemed to have problems with? I think he recently changed his username again?
toolsforcheap? or Eric(something)???? I think you had mentioned him in the past Nelson. :headscratch:

That was 800 Watt if I am not mistaken:thinking:, hes out of business now totally or another ID:nuts:. He had some fair prices on some things and was slower than cold tar shipping with bad communication.

He never lasted long under the second ID. Just my 2cents worth which aint worth squat:biggrin:

I had a sale go south, 1 of 351... The guy gropes it's been a month... It was in French customs. It's the reason I don sell outside of the U.S.

I have had 4 eBay purchases from China that never came in. All 4 were refunded by eBay. The problem is you have to wait 30+ days to figure it's not coming... Never odder from eBay of the item id in China and you are in a hurry.

not everything gets scanned.......i have bought and sold over 5000 items easy....i know

I haven't bought much from China, in fact only two things so far. Both were small and inexpensive, but they each arrived within two weeks of ordering. Maybe I just got lucky!

I saw an episode of Judge Judy where an eBay scammer sold someone a cellphone for $200 but only sent them a printed picture of the phone. She actually tried to argue that it was a legitimate deal because buried deep in the terms of sale paragraph it said "Photo of item only". Of course she got the full Judge Judy treatment.

I've only had one 'bad' experience with E-Bay, most have been good to 'tolerable'. Some slow to ship but the product was as stated and the price good. I'm often surprised by the speed of delivery, it seem many get it too you faster than they promised.

With the exception of the 'one' time. I waited weeks for the confirmation of purchase ( I paid right away as I always do) then the item didn't come for weeks. I wrote a neutral comment explaining the problem. Then I get a scathing and expletive filled e-mail from the seller telling me I had no right he was on vacation and that's why everything was held up. Did he post that fact..NO! So after some back and forth with this guy I change my comment to 'good' just to send him on his way. Then I get another expletive filled e-mail because I didn't give him an excellent rating. I should have reported him to E-Bay but I always thought I was being the good guy by not doing so. When I think back on it I don't think I was.

If I remembered the seller I would post it here but unfortunately I don't, too many years ago.

My worst eBay nightmare... I manufacture R/C plane kits with CNC equipment in my garage... I was selling some from an eBay store....

I never let people come over to pick them up and I dome make shipping a cash cow... I had one guy that was insistent on coming to my home at a time when I would not be there to pick up a kit. Sorry there are too many weirdoes out there and I do not leave dealing with them to my wife. I tell him no, it will ne mailed like everyone else and he threatens me with making an issue of it with eBay. Long story short I opt to cancel the sale and tell him to sit on it.

You don't know who or what your dealing with and I prefer not to drag them home, especially when I was in California.
