I have a Bolton that I bought second hand. I would buy another today if I needed to. Pretty fair quality for the price range.
As.far.as.customer service, I cant help on that aspect.

Sent from somewhere in East Texas by Jake Parker!

Thanks Jake I'm looking at the b250v lathe. Hard to make a decision. Willing to spend $2500 hopefully that at that price range I won't need to do many upgrades.

You could get a Enco 12x36 for just about that price if you catch one of there sales with free shipping.
Sorry don't know anything about the Bolton lathes.

http://www.machinetoolonline.com/PM1030.html Here is another to throw in the mix for comparison.

Most of the lathes that look the same are coming out of the same factories. It is up to the tool reseller (Bolton, Grizzly, etc.) to specify the quality and components.

QMT has a good reputation and there are many owners in the subforum for Precision Matthews.

Which reseller do you intend to buy the lathe from?

I would also look at the PM1228VF-LB at QMT, when you start adding up everything that is not included on the base package Bolton, you just get a lot more machine on the 1228 for not much more. Getting better quality chucks with a standard D1-4 mount, larger spindle bore, power cross feed (that the Bolton doe not have), less change gears, 3 year warranty, etc. I just think there are better choices, or possibly look at the used machine market in your area.

I think I read on this forum someplace that Bolton tools is owned by the brother of the owner of Grizzly. You'd think they'd be shopping the same Chinese/Tiawanese factories for equipment and would be of comparable quality/price. Lots of owners of Grizzly hardware on this site (I love my G0709 lathe); I'm guessing at least 2/3 are happy with their purchase.

Not sure where I'll buy from. But the PM machine is impressive. I live in Darlington SC so probably Pa.

I went with a precision Mathews machine because of features and price, Bolton I did look at their machines but it was like every accessory was extra $ so from just the cost standpoint the PM machine was a better deal. I do not yet have the machine so cannot comment on quality. One thing that I found in my research is going by you tube videos there are many of them out there for grizzly, and precision mathews machines, some of them don't give you any usable information about the machine, but there are a lot of people that have bought them, and made some sort of a video. As for bolton machines the company has a lot of videos on you tube, most of them do not give you any usable information to make a decision about buying one. There is one person on you tube that made a few videos using his bolton lathe, so it does not look like a big seller.
