This is my first post on the boards, and I have gone back through some of the history, and was not successful in finding what I needed.

In any case, I am struggling to wire my new 1 phase motor with my Dayton, 6 lug drum switch. I would like the drum to be both ON/OFF and also forward and reverse. I have figured out how to wire it IF I use a separate ON/OFF switch, but I would prefer to use just the drum switch. Is it possible with my current motor and switch, or do I have to have the separate ON/OFF switch as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Your wiring diagram in the drum switch should make it easy. Lines from feed on one side , from motor the other side. The switch powers and changes direction .

thanks for the quick response. so, is this the suggested wiring schematic?

Well, I got it wired up and it works great, with one small exception. There is something going on inside the switch when the cover is on. With the cover off, it switched ON/OFF in both directions. FWD and REV work fine. When I put the cover on, all I get is a buzz in REV, and nothing in FWD. If it is shorting, I cannot see where, and it does not trip the breaker. I'll do some more testing, but at least I got the wiring part correct. Now to diagnose what the cover is doing when installed...................

I'm interested in the outcome of this, sorta puzzling... Nicely done schematic TF. Basic question......what does the P2 and T1 designate on the motor wiring diagram? On the high voltage diagram line 1(to P1) and line 2(to yellow) are the two hot legs, correct?

thanks

Brian, thanks for the compliment, but I cannot take credit for the schematic. I actually found that on Google when searching for my motor wiring schematic. I have the motor wired for 110v, and the P1 leg is the common leg. I am switching the "hot" leg via the #1 lug on the drum switch. I'll take a look at my notes to answer on the 220v wiring, but I believe you are correct. What I found in the drum switch was that the cover was pushing the wires against the contacts, and causing the malfunction (which I still don't totally understand). However, I did shorten some of the wires and did a little re-routing inside the switch itself, and seemed to have resolved the issue. It may take me a day or two to get back into the shop, but I will answer your questions on the 220v wiring for this.

Your drawing looks nothing like the name plate on the side on the motor.

KI you are correct. I copied the photo of the schematic to get the correct orientation of the starter vs. run windings on the drum switch to match my motor to what was depicted in the schematic. You are 100% correct, that the P1-P2, and the T2-T8 are not the same. However, once I was able to determine start/run windings, and low/high voltage connections, I was able to map the correct wiring for my motor. The schematic was to place the type of wire on the drum switch lugs. I then "mapped" that over to my motor. Does that make sense? I certainly see how that would be confusing in this thread without stating it explicitly.

Yeah. I feel asleep reading it & when I refreshed the page it still didn't update until after I posted. Glad you got it going.
