I am in the process of cleaning/spindle my mill is 12-7410 and I have fe questions:
1. Is the manual available online the right one for my VN12?
2. What is the modern cross number for the seal the goes on the front bearing?-Solved See Below
3 after cleaning it with kerosene I notice the ring gear can move a bit on the spindle before it "catches" then the spindle will turn is this normal?
UPDATE:
Upon disassembly I found the part number for the seal is #16072. This was originally a Chicago Rawhide part. Do not buy a Chicago Rawhide replacement unless you want a seal that has been deteriorating for at least ten years on a shelf. SKF decided to eliminate the CR brand form their lineup in 2005 so an CR boxed seals are at least 9 years or more old. The part number is the same, however.

Pete,

There were three different manual for the No. 12. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you the right manual.

If the ring gear can rotate on the spindle then the key or keyway that locks the gear to the spindle has probably been damaged. You'll have to pull the spindle apart to see what's going on. Make sure you put witness marks on the gear and the spindle and make measurement so that you can get the gear back in exactly the same place on the spindle.

Thank you for the advice Cal, How do I find your email? I would love to have the right manual.
