Harbor Freight Qctp, Is It Any Good?

I went away from the Harbor Freight and went with an A2Z. thanks

Forgive me for replying to an older post, but being new here I was reading down through the first page of topics to sort of catch up on what’s been going on. I saw this one and can offer an educated opinion. Maybe someone will see it and it might be helpful.

In answer to the thread subject, NO! I would not recommend it.

I purchased a used lathe and the HF QCTP was included. Not knowing any better, I thought there was some value there. Not.

IMHO: It is poorly made. It is sloppy. You have to get a hex wrench out to change a tool. The handle hits the adjustment screw on the top of the tool holders. Really frustrating. It has a crude, bizarre way to clamp the holders by compressing cuts made in the thing that holds the tool holders. Strange! If it were $5.00 I would not buy another.

I couldn’t stand the thing. So much so I pitched it in the junk box and replaced it with the Tormach 3112. I would rate the Tormach as excellent. It was designed in cooperation between LMS and Tormach. I couldn’t be happier. The Tormach 3112: What a nice piece of equipment.

Allow me add to my previous post. I thought the HF QCTP was worse than worthless because it robbed me of the joy of using my lathe and replaced it frustration. Before getting the Tormach, I was ready go back to the standard tool post rather then continue to suffer the HF.

It was dangerous too. I had to use my belt sander to grind down the sharp corners on it to avoid injury and most likely epidermal leakage from just bumping my hand into the thing. No exaggeration.

There are some good values at HF, this however is not one of them. I've been on this good Earth for a while now, and I don't think I've ever had a tool that I have such a negative opinion about.

I guess that about sums it up. :)
