I seem to have a problem with my new 932 PDF.

The DRO brackets interfere with the quill handle when lowering the quill. See Pic below.

My question is, can I relocate the vertical bar to the rear of the horizontal bracket (next Pic) (both top & bottom) and then readjust the remainder with no ill effects? The DRO was installed by QMT.

I hope this makes sense to the readers--sometimes transferring ideas via written words fails. Any other solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerry

Can you move the quill handle out on the shaft 1/4 inch? It would clear the mount, but might be a finger pincher.

I emailed QMT and sent the same pics as above. The response was to go ahead with relocating the brackets--with a couple of cautionary notes. Pretty much what I had expected. A good project for a Saturday morning. Now if I could just locate my Starrett level---HMMMMM

I completed the relocation of the vertical DRO scale yesterday as planned. No big surprises.
I was a bit anal about how to prevent any binding since I moved every piece except the one bolted to the headstock. I estimate that I re-adjusted the pieces 5-6 times before I decided that it was OK. The problem I felt I was possibly encountering was exactly how to determine if there was any binding. So, I finally placed the headstock approximately midway up the scale and gently adjusted and tightened the slider. Next, I lowered the headstock part way down and loosened the screws holding the slider to the headstock bracket. It didn't spring any. I lowered it completely and loosened again--still no spring. Back up to the mid-point and another loosen & recheck--still no spring. 3/4 up to the top and another check, followed by all the way up. So, I feel that I have it adjusted correctly--I HOPE SO!!

I have located 4 R-8 devices in my boxes of post-move "stuff". 3 of them fit the quill OK, while the 4th wouldn't seat. That problem has been covered adequately in other threads, and the fix went smoothly.

My previous mill was a Grizz G0519. It is quite similar to the PM-932 in appearance. I have discovered one aspect of the 932 that I absolutely detest--THE DRAWBAR!!!!!!!! OK, so it is fixable. It is way too long for any of my R-8 devices and that extra nut is a real PITA. End of rant.

So far, all I have done is run it through its paces and check all of the functions. A couple of tight areas and one loose one. Nothing major. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied--still haven't located that Starrett level.

PS--Hope to have the 932 set up & leveled by the time I get the 12x36.

Thanks for the info and pics. I'm also getting the PM1236 but not until the next batch, and now I'm considering the PM932-PDF since he has a few in stock. I'll have to mention this when it comes time to install the DRO. Matt seems like a good guy, plus I live less than 30 minutes from them, so buying from them seems to be the logical choice for me. Never owned or operated a lathe or mill before but I'm tired of fabricating by hand, so I can't wait to get started.

Matt is delivering the PM932M-PDF this week... only unloading it into the garage but I expect to get it in the basement within a week or so after delivery. Figured I might as well do this while he has some on hand. I'll check the DRO brackets and make sure they're okay.
