Supermax Mill

Thanks for the replies , guess I don't know what the power down feed should look like I ran it down manually , I will check it next week ,
Planning on picking it up next week , we'll invert the head and bring up table with wood in between .
Seller has forklift I have trailer with 1' side rails and tractor with loader on my end , wounder what it weights? , I could prob get a backhoe if needed. Guess I'll try finding operator/maint manual in mean time.
I've Ben wanting a decent mill for a while now and have Ben picking up some tooling for one for a while too
I'll need to get vfd and r8 collets and make room in shop and I'll be good .

The standard weight of a 9x42 table machine is 2050 lbs.

For a picture of the power down feed, look at the picture in this post: http://www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/bridgeport-quill-handwheel.35808/#post-304284
The power down feed consists of the feed power engage lever in the far upper right (with the flashlight hanging on it), the engage lever below the hand wheel, the gear selector knob in the picture center, and the For/Rev knob in the center of the handwheel. It is very common for the hand wheel to be missing, IMHO the handwheel is almost useless.

Run the knee to the bottom of it's travel for transporting. It is possible to damage the nut due to the bouncing during travel. As you said, support the head with wood blocks. Lift from the top if possible. If you have forks, lifting under the ram with 2x4 pieces on top of the forks is my preferred method. If you have enough lifting height, lifting straps around the ram are good.

X2 what Jim says. He is the 'guy' here for so many of us. I bought the harbor freight gantry with a 25% off coupon. Used it to raise mine off the car hauler. It is a ymc30. 2hp and I adore it. The FH gantry (grey model) I in the shop and I find I use it all the time with a chain fall. Just a tip.

There are manuals on the web for this unit. Let me know if you do not find it.

As for supermax vs Bridgeport. I have read a lot if very very favorable items on the supermax setups. B
congrats.

Thanks Jim and countryguy, I didn't think about lowering knee to its limit, wounder how much space will be with head inverted and table/knee down , need to bring enough wood. It's about a 5mi trip.

Looks like a great deal.... we don't have such great deals in Canada. Even cheap Chinese import mini mills now cost 1000USD. They appreciate faster in price than the stock market - guess luck of competition and used machinery in Alberta's oil country is not helping with price.
