A collet closer for my Clausing 13x36 lathe. I have a complete set of collets and the drawbar but not the part that actually compresses the collets .

Any idea where I can get one?

Check eBay for a Royal closer. It can be adapted to your model fairly easily

There are about a bzillion different collet types. And I'm not familiar with a Clausing 13x36. What type collets do you have, and what is the spindle nose taper in your lathe?

5-c collets, no taper.

What is the model number of your lathe? My Clausing 5914 has a 4 1/2 Morse taper in the head spindle.

It is a "13 Inch Geared Head Lathe" marked Clausing-Colchester ser# 3/35237. It does have a tapered spindle tapering from 1.75" to 1.5" in its 2.25" length. It came with a complete set of 5c collets. The collets screw onto the drawbar but there is noway to compress them. Maybe all I need is some sort of adapter?

you need the nose piece it sounds like. Is your drawbar a hand screw on type or is there a lever attached? A couple photos would be helpful. I at one time owned a 5hp early 1980s Clausing 13", it had a L taper mount and I had a Royal collet closer for it. Royal was the main closer company back then and probably had a stock model for just about every Clausing made.

That is the exact (except for the nose piece) closer I have but nowhere is it marked "Royal". My lathe is 5hp but does not have a taper attachment.

So it sounds like you just need the nose piece, maybe someone who has one could blue print it for you and send the specs, or maybe Royal has the data online or you could pick up a used nose piece on ebay. On my closer the Royal label was imprinted in small print in the bearing housing back by the handle, that could have changed though. You could have an Asian copy of the Royal. I can tell you for certain its not a Hardinge closer, they were also available for lots of machines.
