Any retail, tool type places to visit in Madison?

Jim

Can't help with Madison, but is that an RV in your avatar?

Karl,

Yes it is. It is an RV-6, I finished it about 7 years ago. In fact when we landed in Madison this morning and I went to open the door for our passengers I said, "Welcome to Oshkosh."

There used to be one on the southeast side of town. That was years ago though. I can't even remember their name.
With the ease of ordering on the internet from the likes of MSC and McMaster and with next day delivery, there is not much opportunity for a bricks and mortar store.
There is Wiedenbeck, a heavy hardware supplier, who supplies bar and sheet stock as well as some tools but mostly for the ironworkers. You buy bar stock by the length, they will cut it for you but for a charge. Also a number of welding supply shops.
There are a number of new and used machine suppliers in the area. About 15 miles north of Madison in Waunakee, there is Tormach and Madison Tools (used machines, mostly big stuff).

Thanks Bob.

My job description changed recently and may be taking me to Madison on a fairly regular schedule with down time, middle of the day. I'll have to see how it goes and look up some of those places.

Thanks,

Jim

I'm in awe of anybody that can do that big a project. My dad did an RV-8, took him full time the first three years of his retirement. This was before there was such a thing as quick build kits.

We do have a Harbor Freight on the south side but I didn't really consider them as a tool supplier. ;)

I am in awe that I finished it! I am a pilot and NOT a builder. I had trouble dealing with the overwhelming scope of the project. When I started my airplane they didn't have pre punched kits or quick build offerings like they do now. It took me 14 years to complete, but one summer I went golfing! It will most definitely test your stick to it ability!
