Anyone ever mess with one of these, it's a 220v Do-all band filer converted to a band saw. I got it with a sb10l lathe and thinking about going thru it cleaning / painting ,new tires . was told the guy that converted it built race cars for parnelli Jones at vpj.
It is variable speed but seems slow for a band saw the color is kill-en me Any thoughts ?. Thanks
Derrick

Another pic, Any one have experience with these machines converted or not?. Trying to decide if it would be worthwhile to refurbish it and use it for aluminum panels and what ever. I have a 4x6 horizontal band saw but this should do better with larger pieces.:makingdecision:
Thanks

Thanks john ,It is a pulley that moves in and out the belt rides on, forgot the name for it . Dose it need to go faster if so mabey increase motor pulley size. It runs smooth but the color is killen me. have you any experience with these machines. I could put a vert band saw to use but will this do the job?.
What are the speeds of regular metal cutting vert band saws this one looks like 250 ipm max ? is there a formula for pulley size x speeds . I like older machines that work, no chi

I have no experience with that particular machine. However, the plate appears to say that the max speed is 250 feet per minute, which should be fine for aluminum. For mild steel i'd back it off to 80-100.

Looks like a fine machine. I'd hate to see it scrapped.

Don't change anything. I have owned and converted two of these filers to saws and they work fine. The speeds are good for steel and aluminum. The only short coming is the lack of adjustment of the height of the upper guide above the work. I made a couple of different size brackets to change for thick or thin work. Keep it and use it.

Looks very useable, and sounds like a very interesting history. Mike

Thanks for the reply's the saw is #2 on the project list #1 is to belt and dial in the sb heavy 10 i just finished refurbishing. But this will be down the road a few weeks as i'll be having rota-tor cuff surgery in the morning and will be down for a while:bitingnails:.
I think i can get new tires for it from Do-All then run it for a bit if all seems good i'll clean, paint, re-lube and run the heck out of it.
Ya'all have a good one and thanks for the advice.

Think it's going to be a good oneimage.jpg image.jpg Finally getting to the saw, getting two new blade guide bearings and some new tires and a new color it's going back to gray, it came with four new old starett blades
