Perhaps she won't notice the #8,000 lathe in the driveway...

So has she noticed it yet? Do you still sleep in the house with both of the family jewels intact? Inquiring minds want to know. This readers digest moment is brought to you by our contributor Ugly DOG. lets hear it for him ladies and gents... Surviving the wrath of a possibly angry woman just because his toys weigh more than her car. Gotta say my minister of finance would have lost her mind and made me sleep in the shop with all of the wasps. Just kidding!!!!! So what size tapers does it use for the tooling? They are probably like an MT7 or something different compared to the biggest hobby lathe I have ever seen. That is big industrial iron so it's gotta be tough and dependin on it's age it should probably be loaded with all kinds of safety devices too. More pics there Ugly, we would like to see what it uses for tooling and how slow it will turn. Again congrats on a great score and hope it is as fun as it is huge.

Hope to get her off the trailer on Saturday.
Will have to see if the volunteer Boom Truck shows up.

I'm 5'10.
Wish the bed on this lathe were a little longer shes only 60".
It's difficult to stretch out when I'm sleeping.
Perhaps it will be more comfortable sleeping once she gets moved into the heated garage, after all this is MN it could snow anytime.

Daryl--it'll be interesting when I get up to view your shop with all the new big machines---heck I haven't even got to see your old big machines yet--I'm sure looking forward to seeing the big toys----Dave

Dave,
My "big toys" don't compare to your gorgeous Hendey!
We look forward to your visit.

Well she's off.
And she landed on her feet!
I got a call late Sunday night from a friend who delivers construction equipment and supplies. He had anticipated several hours of down time this morning between runs and would be in my area if I wanted to get her off. He doffed his bed which reveal forks which projected from inside the frame of his semi truck. Not quite as nimble as an actual fork lift but certainly beefy.

Got her unloaded and onto the apron of my garage.
Next challenge was to get her threaded around my 5x5 foot acorn welding table past my Gisholt turret lathe and into place on the back wall. My plan was to use 3/4" pipes and a commercial come-along.

I took a chance and stopped in at the retiring machinist who I referenced in another thread. He loaned me machine skates and a machine jack.
OK. That's the end of that story. I'm hot on the trail of getting my own set!

Shes not level, or wired yet. Perhaps chips on Sunday?

And the most important part..... the wife is laughing at me. That's a good thing... I think... hope...

That's Great Daryl! And the best part "Peace on Earth" or at least in your house.

Ha ya I know I'm a little late but this is to funny . I just sent you a private mess about 2 very large monarchs that are fairly close. Haven't menioned it to my wonderful wife
Trouble is if I make the trip I'll most likely bring both of them home

Maybe. New hardwood floors in the main part of the house would smooth the process

Thanks scruffy. Ron

That lathe is massive. Glad your wife is laughing and not crying. By the way. I'm going to use you and some others on this forum as an example to my wife of how it could be. She thinks I'm crazy but I'm not even in the same ballpark as some of you guys. Although I'd like to be some day ;)

Me thinks the "She who must be obeyed " brigade, must be going into hibernation mode for winter, Or have we all ended up with the Stepford Wife's, Beware the nightmare is about to start, when they stir from hibernation in the spring, A similar scenario, has happened to me this morning, My amateur accountant was sitting pouring over the joint bank account statements, ( Amazing what turns females on) My heart sank, as the sins were read out Thus--

£60.95 pounds for tool supplier A

£53.00 pounds for tool supplier B

£9.50 pounds for book

" you did not tell me you were buying more tools ?" Still the response was friendly & warm, Hmmmmmmmm ! I think I feel the urge to buy another large machine tool, Excuses guys, Please if I have a mad spell
