Leaving old shop and my machine tools, what to buy to rebuild?

Well, I have moved, and we have moved into the house, used the garage (shop to be) as a staging area for all the boxes to be unpacked into the house, but finally have enough space there to setup some of my tools.

So far I've got and brought from Texas:
  • Every handtool known to mankind (and then some)
  • Engine hoist to move machines and heavy parts
  • Collection of partial projects and supplies
  • HEAVY welding/beating table

What I've added:
  • HBM 45 Profi mill with DRO
  • Several ISO30 tooling
    • Drillchuck
    • Collets from 3 to 25mm (1/8" to 1")
    • Saw arbor+saws
    • 50mm surfacing
    • 22mm arbor chuck
  • Metric hold down kit
  • tool grinder with HSS and a drill angle holder
  • small desktop drill press
  • shopvac (a big one) to remove all the chips I plan to make
  • compressor
  • collection of mostly Mitutoyo metric measuring tools
  • 3 150cmx64cm hardwood topped workbenches
  • old kitchen cabinets (4 of them 100cmx60cm each)
  • 12 double bulb 120cm fluorescent lights
  • 5m 400v 3-phase/16amp extension cord

Still to come:
  • Lathe (likely a AI Hembrug DR1S 4000rpm)
  • 1200+C degree oven (alu melting, tempering, annealing)
  • TIG AC/DC welder

Decided to hold off on the CNC for a bit until I get settled in, and then it may change into a 3D printer.

I'm VERY happy with my new shop and even started making some parts yesterday for a small pen knife with a homemade damascus blade.

Not trying to brag here, just excited that I get to rebuild my shop after a 5,000 mile+ move and after selling my place in Texas. There are many nice used machines available here and there is a machinist toy store about 20 minutes up the road.

Congratulations!! If you bide your time you will find a nice Hembrug. They are built like tanks so it is likely the last lathe you will ever need to buy.

Any chance you can post some pictures?

Paul.

Google Tony Lathes and find Hemburg on his list. A great lathe I'd love to have(If not metric!), Get a Hemburg if possible.

Yes I can, now that I have cleaned up a bit.

don't have all lights up yet, so lighting is varied.

Well, I just bought a AC/DC Tig welder with all the fixings AND a AI Hembrug DR1S 4000rpm lathe.

Lathe comes with a quick change toolpost with 5 holders, 3 jaw fixed jaw, 3 jaw with moveable jaws, 4 jaw, set of collets and collet closer, work light and chip tray. The lathe is in really good shape but could use some paint.

It will be delivered to my house early next week at the latest, I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Glad you're settling in. I've heard so many horror stories of folks outside the US who can't find equipment. Keep posting.

Congratulations!!! I absolutely love the look and features of the Hembrug machines. I compromised and bought a Colchester Chipmaster  Although not quite a Hembrug, I am loving that little lathe more with every turning job I do on it.

Make sure you take loads of pictures and post them up. I would love to hear your opinion on the machine!

Paul.

Lathe is being delivered today, hopefully we can unload it with my engine hoist, if not I'll have to unload it at a friends place with the forklift and then find a way to get it to my garage.

Good luck. Just take it easy and don't rush. I have made most of my mistakes when I have been stressed from being in a hurry. Take lots of pictures :))

Paul.
