Pilliod Lbr. Co. Machinist Tool Cases and Chests

I have a VERY similar chest. I thought it was user made till I saw one just like it in a reprint of a 19th. C. Montgomery Wards catalog. I think mine is a bit larger. The drawer pulls are identical to those in your link.

Hey George, If you have an interest I may be able to help you. If you would post a few pix with it opened and closed with outside of wood dimensions, W x H x D, when closed, I’ll see if I can ID it and give it a Period Date.
Have a good one.Ted

That is a neat reference. The Union's with the finger latches are cool.
I found a beat up 'no name' at a swap meet years ago and rebuilt it for my drafting equipment.
The Tool Maker's use to give me a hard time about using a 'Machinist's Chest', until I found reference to Gerstner's chests.
I've got two others waiting to be re-furbed. They've been packed away for over 15 years.
I have a bunch of cherry up in the attic that I've been collecting for years with the plan of making one from scratch - someday.

I've never heard of a Pilloid, it kind of reminds me of my grandfather's box. It has been refinished at some point and there's no name on it. I'll have to check it out.

Wow! Haven't heard the name Pilliod, since the machine shop I worked for made some huge hydraulic platen presses for them. That's about 40 years ago....
